OEM Belt Specification: Every Parameter the Buyer Controls

In OEM manufacturing, every parameter below is buyer-defined and locked at the specification approval stage. None can be unilaterally changed by the factory.

Material Parameters

Leather grade and quality:Full-grain, top-grain, vegetable tanned, split, or PU. Each carries different durability, price, and market positioning implications. Which tannery standard, what thickness range — all enter the written specification.

Leather thickness:Specified in millimetres with stated tolerance. Standard dress belt single-layer: 2.5–3.0mm. Smart-casual single-layer: 3.0–3.5mm. Lined (two-layer) constructions: total thickness and individual layer thicknesses specified separately. Thickness variation is the most common quality failure in high-volume genuine leather production — a tight tolerance in the spec document is the prevention.

Colour:Pantone reference code or approved leather swatch. "Brown" is not a specification. Which brown — warm or cool, matte or semi-gloss, with or without a surface sheen? Without a Pantone reference or approved swatch, colour inconsistency across batches is a structural risk.

Construction Parameters

Width:In millimetres, ±0.5mm tolerance. 20mm to 55mm — any width is producible. The most commercially active widths in European wholesale: 32mm formal dress, 35mm smart-casual, 38mm casual/denim.

Edge finishing:Two primary methods with different commercial implications:

Painted edge:Multi-layer edge paint application, drying between coats. Economical, consistent, appropriate for top-grain and PU constructions. Can show wear at flex points if under-specified.

Burnished edge:Heat or pressure applied directly to the leather fibres without paint, compressing and polishing the edge. The correct method for full-grain and vegetable tanned constructions. Develops a denser, smoother edge with wear — the luxury finishing standard.

Stitching:4–6 stitches per centimetre as standard. Polyester thread — not cotton — for UV and moisture resistance. Tonal or contrast thread, single or double row, decorative pattern — all buyer specification decisions.

Hole layout:Number of holes, spacing between holes, first hole distance from tip — all spec parameters. European market standard: 5 holes, 1cm spacing.

Hardware Parameters

Buckle type:Single-prong classic, double-prong, slide, automatic ratchet, reversible rotating. All buckles are nickel-free as standard — EU Regulation 1907/2006 compliant.

Buckle finish:Polished silver, brushed silver, brushed gunmetal, antique brass, polished gold, matte black — every combination is producible.

Stage 1 — Briefing and Specification Clarification

Stage 2 — Tooling (Where Required)

A strike test (single embossed or engraved piece) is produced to confirm tooling quality before full production commitment.

Stage 3 — Sample Production

From confirmed specification: 7 business days sample delivery. The sample is built from the same leather and hardware as bulk production — not from dedicated sample materials. This is critical: the sample's quality is the bulk production's quality. There is no separate standard.

Stage 4 — Sample Review and Specification Lock

Buyer reviews the physical sample against the written specification. Any revisions are accommodated with a revised sample. Once approved, the specification is formally locked — approved sample plus signed specification document become the binding production standard for every subsequent run. No deviation from this standard is acceptable without buyer authorisation and a new sample approval.

Stage 5 — Production
